Strengthening Implementation of The ASEAN School Nutrition Package A Regional Approach to Quality Assurance and Monitoring: For: ASEAN and SEAMEO bodies; Ministries of Health, Ministries of Education and relevant national authorities in Southeast Asia

1.The ASEAN School Nutrition Package provides a common regional reference for comprehensive school nutrition. Across the countries assessed, however, the available evidence shows varying levels of documented alignment across the ten Minimum Standards.
2.The available evidence does not consistently allow the full pathway to be traced for every country and standard, from relevant national policy and programme arrangements, through institutional responsibilities and implementation mechanisms, to monitoring and review. This reflects both differences in national systems and limitations in the available evidence.
3.The assessment identifies MS1 (Integrated Package of Interventions), MS5 (Healthy Food Environment), MS8 (Physical Activity), and MS9 (Monitoring Mechanisms) as strategic areas for further attention. These should be viewed as leverage points for strengthening implementation of the full Package, rather than substitutes for the other Minimum Standards.
4.This brief recommends strengthening quality assurance and monitoring for the ASEAN School Nutrition Package through a common regional framework, supported by nationally appropriate policy, regulatory, or administrative mechanisms.
