Abstract:
School-Based Nutrition Promotion Program: Brunei Darussalam’s Country Profile" serves as an essential reference for schools in Brunei Darussalam and across Southeast Asia, offering insights to enhance the implementation of School-Based Nutrition Promotion (SBNP) programs. This book underscores the Brunei government’s commitment to fostering healthier lifestyles through innovative initiatives. Flagship programs like the Rancangan Permakanan Sekolah (RPS) and Program Harapan provide nutritious meals to primary school students, hostel residents, and disadvantaged learners. Complementing these are the Healthy School Canteen Guidelines, which ensure the availability of wholesome food and beverages, and the Fit4Good Programme, a six-month intervention aimed at reducing obesity among adolescents.
Through collaboration between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education, the nation has further enriched these programs with canteen grading systems, advisory services, and campaigns promoting healthy eating. Despite challenges like food wastage and ingredient costs, Brunei’s multi-sectoral approach exemplifies its dedication to nurturing a healthier, more resilient generation. This book not only chronicles Brunei’s journey in transforming schools into health-promotion hubs but also serves as a resource for research, capacity building, advocacy, and policymaking. It offers practical inputs for addressing gaps in SBNP implementation across Southeast Asia, inspiring regional progress toward better nutrition and health.
